Why do most motorcycle crashes happen?

Motorcyclists crash for many reasons, but it's known that around two-thirds of all crashes are a result of other drivers. Most crashes involve a passenger vehicle, so it's important for motorcyclists to know how to avoid these collisions and what to expect when they're on the roads.

One common accident takes place when a driver pulls out in front of a motorcyclist. For example, if you're driving down the road and suddenly have to slam on your brakes because a driver to your right tries to make a left turn, that's the kind of situation that could become deadly. A left-turn collision is a head-on collision for a rider in many cases. When a rider hits a vehicle head-on, he or she has little protection against the impact.

Drivers tend to fail to see motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller vehicles, and they may appear to be traveling more slowly than they are, which causes drivers to pull out in front of them when there isn't time. Drivers must wait if they see a motorcyclist coming, and they should always look both ways twice before pulling out into traffic.

Motorcyclists, on the other hand, can help prevent these crashes by making eye contact with those waiting to pull out. Tuning the motorcycle to make it louder also makes you more visible to those around you. Wear bright or reflective clothing, and be prepared to slow down or stop if you don't think someone has seen you coming his or her way.

These are a few things to consider as a motorcyclist. If you're hit, you have the right to pursue a claim.
