Pursuing Justice For Accident Victims In Indiana

1 dead, 1 injured in fatal motorcycle crash in Indiana

In motorcycle crashes, there could be several people in harm's way. Passengers often take a significant hit, just as the drivers do. Take, for example, this case out of Indiana. A woman from Michigan was rushed to an Indianapolis hospital following a serious motorcycle accident on State Road 135. The woman, a 60-year-old, had been a passenger on the motorcycle of a 52-year-old man.

They were traveling when they approached a downhill area. There, the driver realized that another motorcyclist was stopped up ahead. He put on the brakes but lost control of the motorcycle, according to the police investigation.

Both the man and woman were thrown from the motorcycle, but the man survived. He suffered a bruised lung and was transported to two medical facilities before he was released. His female passenger did not survive her injuries. They were reported as severe head injuries. It's not clear if either were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

In crashes like this one, the loss of a life is a tragedy. Even though this motorcyclist came into contact with no one else, the passenger's family could have a right to file a claim against him for causing the collision that took a loved one's life. Remember, even passengers retain rights in collisions. If you're hurt, you may have a right to file a claim for compensation. If you're killed, it puts your family in a position to file a claim. Even if you're related to the driver, you could have a right to compensation as an injured passenger in a crash.
