Woman pleads guilty to getting high before fatal crash

When you get behind the wheel, you always make sure you’re focused and attentive. You want to know that the people in your vehicle will get where they’re going safely, and you don’t want to cause a car accident.

While many good drivers are on the roads, like yourself and your loved ones, others don’t take safety seriously. They make bad decisions that put other people at risk of getting hurt or killed. Those people need to face the consequences for their actions.

A woman from southern Indiana has admitted that she was high when she caused a fatal collision on Interstate 64 and will face trial. A Sept. 25 news report states that the woman had originally pleaded not guilty to being intoxicated when she caused the three-car crash. She changed her mind recently and entered the guilty plea. She faces a range of penalties and did not take a plea agreement to change her plea.

The crash took place in March 2016. The woman hit a group of vehicles already stopped on the side of the road. One man was helping a stranded motorist when the crash took place. He was killed in the collision. His family has suffered, the news reports, because his wife had already needed care. Now, she’s been left without his support.

The woman who caused the crash now faces a level 5 felony, which has a potential punishment of between one and six years in prison. Right now, it’s been suggested that she receives three years in prison for her actions, though it’s possible she’ll receive the full six allowed by law.
