Tragic motorcycle collision lands 4 in the hospital

A vehicle versus motorcycle collision sent four people to the hospital on July 9, and two of the injured were reported to be in critical condition. According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened at approximately 3:30 p.m., when a 23-year-old driving a Mercury was exiting U.S. 31 close to Niles. Police say that the collision occurred when the 23-year-old struck an 18-year-old Harley Davidson rider who was driving eastbound along U.S. 12.

Allegedly, the Mercury driver failed to yield to the motorcyclist. Both the 18-year-old motorcyclist and the motorcyclist’s 17-year-old passenger needed to be rushed to a hospital in Indiana for treatment. Both teens were reported to be in critical condition. A 35-year-old and 7-year-old who were riding in the Mercury as passengers were also injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital. Two more passengers in the Mercury, a 10-year-old and 58-year-old, suffered injuries that weren’t reported to be serious. They were treated at the crash site by emergency responders.

It has not been reported why the Mercury driver failed to yield to the motorcyclist. However, authorities have stated that they do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in causing this unfortunate collision.
