Truck Accidents

Truck accidents are caused by various factors

Posted Oct 12, 2018 by Matt Boulton

There are many reasons that truck accidents happen, many of which are preventable. As someone who shares time on the roads with drivers in charge of semitrucks and vehicles with multiple trailers, you need to know that you’re going to be safe. While there are no guarantees, there are some things that you can look out for.

For example, one reason drivers get into accidents is because of making errors. A driver might pull to the right-hand lane too soon or take a turn too sharply. Whether it is a result of negligence, fatigue or distractions, these are errors that put others at risk.

Equipment failure is another problem some truck drivers face. Normally, these vehicles are maintained often and well, but if something isn’t working right, it could lead to an accident. For instance, if a tire was replaced but not bolted down correctly, it could come off and hit another vehicle. In that case, the driver, trucking company, seller of the parts or others may be liable for the injuries you suffer.

Of course, truck company policies do sometimes play a role in accidents. When a driver is on a tight schedule, he or she may go too fast or ignore traffic laws to get where he or she is going as soon as possible. Unfortunately, these vehicles are not designed to stop quickly, so speeding can make it nearly impossible for the driver to stop suddenly if there is construction or a slowdown ahead of them.

Truck crashes are preventable on the whole. If you’re injured in one, you may be able to seek compensation for the driver’s mistakes.
