I-465 Accident Near I-70 Results in Fatal Injuries to One Victim
November 21, 2020 — Indianapolis, Indiana
On Saturday afternoon, another tragic auto accident on an Indianapolis-area interstate has resulted in a fatality.
According to Indiana State Police (ISP), they received a call regarding a multiple-vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-465, near the I-70 to I-465 exit ramp.
Upon arrival at the crash scene, ISP witnessed a passerby giving CPR to one of the accident victims, 50-year-old Cynthia Renihan. Ms. Renihan was transported by emergency service personnel to a local area hospital where she, unfortunately, passed away from her injuries.
At this time, ISP has not determined an official cause of the crash, however, they did note that the GMC SUV Ms. Renihan was traveling in was involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle, which resulted in contact with at least one other vehicle.
It was also noted by ISP that Ms. Renihan was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision and that no other injuries were documented at the time of this report.

Indianapolis Sees Unwanted String of Saturday Accidents in November
Sadly, this latest accident marks the third Saturday in a row that Indianapolis has seen a fatal crash on one of its surrounding interstates.
On Saturday, November 7th, an accident on I-465 involving a motorcyclist and a pick-up truck resulted in fatal injuries to the motorcyclist.
Last Saturday, November 14th, saw a woman pass away after the vehicle she was traveling in rear-ended a semi that has pulled onto the shoulder of I-70 due to severe weather conditions.
Each collision was the result of a combination of unique factors, however, the fact that they all occurred on various interstates is a reminder that we must stay alert and be mindful of the inherent dangers these roadways present.
Causes of Interstate-Related Accidents
Having investigated a number of Indiana’s interstate-related auto accidents, we have seen several causes listed on Indiana accident reports, however, some of the more predominant liability factors include:

We mentioned speed first because it can play a factor in many interstate crashes, however, the speed at which vehicles are traveling on interstates at the time of the collision may be within the state law.
Due to the higher speed limits on interstates, drivers simply have less reaction time, and this, in turn, increases the chances of another factor being listed as the primary cause of a collision.
